Mediation for medium-sized companies

Support for HR, project managers and purchasers

Abstract:

What does the head of a personnel department, the CEO of a construction firm and the project manager in a building company have in common?

All three of them are interested in mediation. For them it is an approach, a process and a framework for solving internal conflicts as well as for structuring difficult negotiations with externals. But does mediation really do the job? What do mediators actually do? Is it in the best interest of the company, too? Will mediation increase revenues or decrease costs?

The book contains answers to those questions using three case studies:

  • Case 1: Conflict-mediation by a neutral external party.
  • Case 2: An executive manager who uses parts of mediation to solve conflicts in the team.
  • Case 3: Efficient purchaser negotiations.

Also, the typical tools of mediation are outlined for the reader's own use and the appendix provides a selection of addresses for training on mediation including the mediation articles from the Hamburg Chamber of Commerce.
